[OAUGNet]-Re: Looking for a possible solution to using a alternate part on a bom without creating a bunch of ECO's

John,

I am no expert in BOM module. But I have done some conversions in the past.
If I remember it correctly, there are effective dates for you to put down
the components in BOM. So will it work for you if you put down the
different effective dates based on your need such as specifying your
original component effective up to certain date and then add the new
substitute component with the appropriate effective dates. When you no
longer need it, then you can end date it.

Will this work?

Thank you for the reply. I have setup the alternate BOM in the test
instance and use ECO to update the alternate BOM and WIP jobs without
touching the primary BOM and the jobs that use primary BOM. I am just
curious is there other alternative for this issue.

Best Regards,

Did you explore the Alternate BOM possibility? Its is not difficult to
setup. You can try in Test instance and see how it is behaving then
implement as necessary.

Subject: [OAUGNet]-Looking for a possible solution to using a alternate
part on a bom without creating a bunch of ECO's

I was looking to see if others out there run into the same problems my
company has with using alternate parts on a BOM without creating an ECO
to use the other part. Basically the scenario is this. We have a bom
to build our product. Sometimes we need to create a variance to use a
part for a limited amount of time then go back to using the original on
the BOM after that time has expired. We don't want to rev the BOM to
this part then Rev the BOM back to the original part but we want all
Work Orders to pick up the new part without us having to change it
manually. That usually works correctly when you rev a BOM but we don't
want to do that. So we are looking to have a solution that allows us
to use a temporary part on a bom without revising it but have all new
work orders created use this new temporary part.

Thanks for any suggestions anyone can chime in with.
