If you have Inventory module the reservations/move order functions should
provide what you are looking for.

Does anyone have a suggestion here..  We are using oracle inventory.  The
manager would like to reserve items in inventory for use in completing a
project.
We build fiber from point A to B.  They would like to 'reserve' the parts
needed to accomplish a particular project .

I've been reading over the BOM users guide, it seems that we could
accomplish our needs there, however we do not have order management
installed and I've not gotten a clear picture of how a BOM item gets created
and at what points it affects inventory. Maybe someone has a source for a
clear understanding on this question also.
