When you mentioned the "performance boosts by applying the 9i database
upgrade" -  what are you referring to? Did you upgrade the database a
point release or are there specific applications patches that you are
referring to?

We completed the upgrade last fall.  We did exactly as you suggest -- we
conducted mission critical functionality testing (cut checks, enter
journal entries, enter invoices, check on any customizations, run
depreciation, import transactions)and basic screen navigation and
functions (run reports, view output, export data, buttons, lists of
values, flexfields, queries, logons/log offs, ADI connectivity, etc).  

Our testers were given guidelines of about 2-4 hours on each module (for
us, full testing of a module is about 25-30 hours).  We found no issues
with module functionality.  Our only issues related to some security
patches that we applied at the same time which fixed some issues and
broke a few more.

We did find some performance boosts by applying the 9i database upgrade
-- specifically with several concurrent requests that had slowed down
significantly after the 11.5.9 upgrade.

long did you take for testing? With how many testers?
Did you perform things like volume load testing?
What were some of yor mission critical tasks tested?
Journla entry, invoice entry, payroll runs?

We just finished our upgrade from 8.1.7 to 9.2.0.5.  We did some
functional testing but we found no errors in our testing.  We have 8
modules from Oracle Financials and they are all working fine after the
upgrade.  Therefore, I don't think you need to put too much effort in
functional testing.  Good luck with your upgrades.
