Opened in 1920, Geneva's airport is one of the oldest in Europe. It has expanded at a rapid rate and has the most modern equipment for aviation. A great advantage is the airport's proximity to the city center: 5 km (3 miles). A direct rail connection links the airport to the downtown railway station in six minutes (a 10-minute trip by taxi). The Palexpo Exhibition & Conference Centre is located only a few hundred yards from the airport.   Getting to Geneva By Rail  The Swiss National Railroad system offers hourly links to Lausanne, Bern, Basel, and Zurich and to the famous holiday regions of the Cantons of Vaud and Valais. The city and airport of Geneva are joined by rail with more than 200 trains a day, including seven TGV trains.
